Goblin Hill Hotel → Jamaica Hill Estate Resort and Villas or Jamaica Hill Hotel → Trident Villas at San San → Goblin Hill Villas at San San
Goblin Hill Hotel, San San Beach. A former sugar plantation overlooking virginal Pellew Island.
- The hotel was designed and built by architect Mr. Marvin Goodman. It was to be a series of condominiums sold to individual owners, along with marketing the condos as hotel rooms when the owners were not using them. There were to be 70 rooms.
- In December 1971, the first phase of a $3 million villa-type resort on an 11-1/2 acre estate overlooking San San Beach was opened.
- In early 1972 the remaining sections of the first phase opened.
- In December 1978 negotiations to sell the hotel to Norwegian Caribbean Lines broke down. Hotel is open for business.
- In March 1979, Norwegian Caribbean Associates takes over the 44-room hotel lease. The hotel is closed.
- In May 1979, after capital investments of US$3/4 million, the hotel reopens as Jamaica Hill Estate Resort and Villas or Jamaica Hill Hotel. It reopened with renovated rooms, new tree bar, formal dining room and redesigned lobby/reception area, and some 44 well furnished, airy villas. See brochure.
- It fell into turbulent times, caused by Norwegian Caribbean's non-vigilance. They abandoned the hotel.
- In September 1984 the hotel was taken over by Trident Hoteland.
- In October 1984 it opened as Trident Villas at San San, a villa complex offering individual cook-and-butler service with a mini-supermarket on the premises to supply guests with food and other household requirements. Up to 88 guests could be accommodated.
- In 1985 the lease of this hotel was terminated by National Hotels and Properties and the hotel returned to the original owners – Goblin Hill Hotel. (?)
- In December 1986 Trident Villas at San San reported 90% occupancy level.
- In March 1987 the hotel reported a 100% occupancy level.
- In December 1992 the hotel reported 70% occupancy, with a projection of 90% for the rest of the season.
- In 1995 Edward 'Ted' Ruddock began managing the hotel. He left in 1997.
- In September 1999 the Minister of Commerce appointed a chartered accountant to inquire into the affairs of Goblin Hill Hotel Limited and to present a report to him. In November the appointment was terminated.
- Now has 28 villas. Villa staffing with a housekeeper/cook is now optional.
