The Astra Hotel → Astra Country Inn → Astra Hotel & Country Inn → Community Institute for Sustainable Tourism → replaced with residences
The Astra Hotel, 62 Ward Ave, Mandeville.
- Opened 1970 with Diana McIntyre as managing director. The 18 bedroom hotel had an intimate cocktail lounge and a spacious dining room on 2-1/2 acres.
- Events were announced in the Gleaner regularly.
- In 1982, Gary Franklyn Pike married Miss McIntyre, and becomes co-managing director.
- On January 1, 1993, Mr. Pike died suddenly of a heart attack at 45 years old.
- In February 1993 Desmond Henry was appointed general manager. Mrs. Diana McIntyre-Pike became chairman.
- In March 1993 the hotel was renamed Astra Country Inn to 'better position the property in relation to new emerging markets'. They also introduced a restaurant "Country Fresh," serving an assortment of Jamaican vegetables, juices and non-meat dishes. See clipping.
- In July 1998, calling itself Astra Country Style Inn, the hotel was enjoying full occupancy, although it is undergoing refurbishing.
- In early November 1998 ads in the Gleaner listed the hotel for sale. See clipping. But it was later retracted and replaced with the next entry.
- In November 1998 the hotel is inviting investors to help it develop a new community tourism thrust. It became the Community Institute for Sustainable Tourism. See clippings.
- In September 2002 Sandals adopted the inn. See clipping.
- In September 2009 Diana McIntyre-Pike was rewarded for her dedication to the tourism industry. See clipping.
- In November 2013 the hotel was listed for sale. The last Gleaner mention.
- According to Google Maps it is becoming a cul-de-sac of residences.
