Chalet Caribe Hotel, Unity Hall (Spring Gardens) [about 6 miles west of Montego Bay]
- Opened 1966 with only six rooms. It was a boutique apartment-type hotel built by Mr. Ewart Henriques. The hotel was noted for scuba diving. Initially it was the home base for the Montego Reef Divers, which was the first dive facility in Jamaica.
- Established as an approved hotel enterprise in 1969.
- In January 1971 the hotel expanded to 28 rooms. The new rooms are all twin-bedded and have fully equipped kitchenettes. All are air conditioned and there is a swimming pool.
- In 1976 the hotel will remain open for the summer, depending on the amount of scuba diving groups. The hotel was now the home base for Teach Tour Diving Company.
- In April 1977, Mrs. Irene Halloway reported that occupancy averaged 50%, and there were no bookings then for May, June or July.
- In September 1990 the hotel was listed for sale by public auction. See clipping.
- In February 1991, Rohan Jumpp reports that the hotel has about 10% occupancy, mostly Jamaicans. Last year at this time they had 70%. The hotel normally gets good bookings from European countries, particularly Germany. The hotel has been laying off staff. [The Iraq war started in January 1991.]
- In March 1993, the hotel, owned by Pino Maffessanti, which was closed for some time, was reopened to house some of the cast for the film Cool Runnings.
- At some point before 2003 it was converted to rental apartments.
- In 2016 the hotel was listed as development property. It is a gated apartment complex in a resort community of high-end villas and homes. It has waterfront access and 1.6 acres. There is a swimming pool, expansive parking lot and a total of 30 apartments, which are always tenanted. See pictures at Facebook.
