The Lindo's → Green Gables Guest House → Green Gables Hotel → replaced with a playhouse
Green Gables Guest House. 6 Cargill Ave., Kingston
- Carmen Lindo purchased this as a private residence in 1930.
- She opened it as a guest house in 1939. It was called The Lindo's.
- In 1948 it was called the Green Gables Hotel.
- The hotel was listed for sale in 1959. It had 15 bedrooms and 13 bathrooms.
- It was also offered for sale in 1965.
- She finally sold it in December 1967. It was bought by Charles and Norah Hernould, and "& Restaurant" was added to the name. Charles Hernould had been the chef at The Ferry Inn.
- In July 1970 the hotel was given a new look. The London Tavern has made its debut. The London Tavern consists of the existing restaurant and an altogether new pub built at the north end of the veranda.
- In 1971 the front garden was transformed into the Garden Grill and Oyster Bar.
- By 1976 the name was changed to Green Gables Pub (and had become famous for its English pub, scotch eggs and English bangers).
- In October 1980 it was destroyed by fire.
- In April 1981 the owners and operators, Cargill Caterers Limited, sold the property to Joseph Anthony Lawrence. The restaurant reopened in September 1981 under the name Green Gables Hotel and advertised specials extensively. No mention of rooms to rent.
- In 1983 they were advertising a disco, playing new and oldies.
- In 2009 the building became the Green Gables Playhouse.
