Sign Great House, five miles from Westgate Shopping Centre on the Adelphi Road. In the district of Orange. Dr. Jack and Annette Gold bought the formerly rundown property, sight unseen, from a newspaper ad in the Los Angeles Times. They developed the Great House into a guest house (with four-poster beds in each room). They had a calypso band and singing waitresses. The entertainment differed each night, but the underlying theme was Jamaica customs, cults and culture. The plantation of tropical fruits and vegetables supplied the kitchen, serving only Jamaican food. There were shops, a bird sanctuary, donkeys for a hilltop ride, and a waterfall-fed swimming pool.

- In May 1969, 19 of 28 employees voted in favor of the NWU; six workers voted against the union and one vote was spoilt.
- In February 1971, Armon and Barbara Kamesar became 50% owners of the great house. Armon had been a 44-year old Vice President of an investment banking firm in Milwaukee. - In April 1980 the hotel reopens following a ten month closure.
- In April 1980 the Great House with its surrounding lands is up for sale again.
- In August 1980 management reached an agreement with the B.I.T.U. Some $20,840 in redundancy payments are to be made to 45 workers. This ended some 12 months of talks on the matter.
- On March 16, 1982 there was an auction for the great house and 39 acres more or less. Swimming pool and all the useful facilities.
- In 2012 the property was owned by Kenny Benjamin, the founder of the Guardsman Group of Companies.
