Mrs. Jervis' Lodgings → Staffordshire Hotel → torn down and replaced with car dealer garage
Staffordshire Hotel, 22 Union St.
- Open circa 1888 with Mrs. R.F. Jervis proprietress. With large verandas. It was known as Mrs. Jervis' Lodgings.
- On December 11, 1891 it was listed for sale.
- In January 1906 the hotel switched to the name Staffordshire Hotel.
- In 1910 Mrs. Jervis was also running Mrs. Jervis Boarding and Lodging at 88 Union St.
- In 1912 the hotel began listing apartments.
- Mrs. Jervis died.
- Mrs. M. Chambers took over running the hotel on October 1, 1922.
- In November 1922 the hotel was put up for sale as a going concern. It did not sell.
- In early 1923 it was running in connection with the Osborne Hotel.
- On June 9, 1923 Mrs. M. Chambers closed the hotel. On June 15th the hotel reopened under new management, Mrs. Rupert Ewen.
- Within a few years Mrs. Ewen was able to buy the hotel, and sell it for a profit of £500. It was acquired by Mrs. Weatherhead.
- In April 1928 the hotel was listed for sale. Owner desirous of leaving the island.
- In April 1930 it was again listed for sale, with the same reason given.
- In 1931 Mrs. Weatherhead's husband dies after years of illness.
- In June 1932 it was announced that Mrs. Weatherhead was now a patient at the "St. Joseph Sanatarium."
- In August 1932 Mrs. Weatherhead put the hotel up for sale as a going concern.
- In 1934 it remained open for the summer, for a change, and had special rates for the business man.
- In Fall 1935 the hotel was painted and renovated.
- Circa 1938 the hotel started using 28 Union Street.
- In 1940 the hotel was owned and managed by Mr. Horace W. Browne.
- In December 1945 the hotel was advertised for rent as a going concern by Mr. Browne
- In January 1946 the rates were substantially less for island residents. The Manageress was now Olive Cooke.
- In April 1947 it was announced that the hotel changed hands, but will continue to run as a hotel.
- In August 1947 it was announced that Mrs. Sydney Myers and Miss Jeanette Myers will not be taking over the hotel. They were to start on September 1st, but negotiations fell through.
- In October 1948 badminton nets were installed.
- In September 1956 it was announced that the hotel will be torn down and replaced by the Northern Industrial Garage, a Ford sub-dealer. Demolition began in 1957.
- According to Google, that building is now the Universal Church, Montego Bay Branch.
