Sundowner Hotel → Sandals Negril Beach Resort (building surrounded by extensions)
Sundowner Hotel, Negril. On 4-1/2 miles of white sand beach.
- Opened in 1966 with a 6-room lodge.
- 16 more rooms in a new wing were added for the 1967-68 season. Each room had a terrace looking out on the Caribbean on the hotel's private beach. The dining room, bar and lounger were also increased in size. The owner and manager was Jerry Hojan.
- In December 1974, Mr. Basil Cahusac became Resident Manager.
- In August 1975, Mr. Basil Cahusac became General Manager.
- In 1977, the hotel had 26 rooms.
- This and the Coconut Cove Hotel (opened 1978), and the Negril Beach Village (opened November 1976 with 250 rooms, then was Hedonism II from 1981-1987, operating as all-inclusive by SuperClubs) were combined into Sandals Negril (which opened in 1988), where it was called the Sundowner building.
- In 2006, they added to the front and rear, so almost a new building.
- Here is a current satellite photo. It appears that the Sundowner was to the south. [Where can I get a pre-2006 satellite photo?]
